The Center of Excellence program is a type of activity carried out in forestry study program because the activities almost the same as curriculum. The Center of Excellence for Essential Oils connects the missing link between universities as human resource producers and DUDI in the essential oil sector. The low human resource capacity of the essential oil industry is one of the causes of the current low quality and price of essential oils. This poses a challenge and threat to the continuity of the essential oil industry business in the future. Therefore, the aim of the "Essential Oil" school is to provide understanding in knowledge and form/improve students' skills in the upstream and downstream forestry sector related to Essential Oils (essential oils).
The balance between sustainable forest management and the welfare of communities around the forest is an effort that is quite difficult to find a middle ground for. Essential Oil Management is one solution in increasing the economic value of Forest Resources. Products that are unique and have high selling value with affordable operational costs are a good starting point. Essential oils are one of the potential agro-industrial export commodities as a source of foreign exchange. Some essential plants that are superior and growing rapidly on the world market include patchouli, citronella, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, pepper, cinnamon, sandalwood, jasmine, vetiver, ylang-ylang, eucalyptus and cubeb.
College
Collaboration Lecture with Lecturers and DUDI Essential Oil
Lectures were carried out in collaboration with internal lecturers from the UMM forestry study program with practitioners from DUDI Essential Oil. COE classes are held for students in their 3rd year (semesters 6 and 7). Lectures on essential oils are held in semester 6 with several learning methods including offline/online and blended. Distribution of lectures by internal lecturers and practitioners. Internal lecturers are held to provide an introduction to essential sciences before mid-term 6, while lectures by practitioners are held after mid-term 6 to discuss the implementation of internal lecturers' lectures.
Field Lecture
Field trip are held 1-2 weeks before the lecture ends. The field trip will invite all DUDI Essential Oil practitioners to practice the results of the implementation of the lecture that has been carried out. Practitioners also use these offline meetings to assess the results of assignments and exams that have been given to students previously as input for final semester grades.
Practice
Practicums are held at the UMM and Pujon Hill campuses. Several COE Essential Oil courses require practicum to assist students in implementing the lectures they have carried out. The practicum includes the process of selecting raw materials, refining, and testing the quality of the essential oils obtained. The practical load is 1 credit each in this course.
Internship
The COE Essential Oils Internship is the highlight of the program. Students are faced directly with field problems at Indusrty to experience firsthand the pressure at work and look for business opportunities for the company's sustainability. In the company all aspects of the essential oil industry are needed including cultivation, essential oil distillation, quality testing and marketing of essential products.
